Scope of use

Biogas is a flexible alternative fuel which can be used in several areas of energy use, among them:

  1. An option to natural gas

Upgraded biogas of natural gas quality can be transported in the existing natural gas grid and be used in the same way as natural gas. This is positive from an environmental point of view since biogas renewable and natural gas is fossil.

  2. Vehicle fuel

Biogas is the best alternative vehicle fuel today, from both a financial and environmental perspectiv. When you switch from a fossil fuel as gasoline or diesel you contribute to reduce the total emissions of carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and dust. Biogas fueled vehicles are today present in many cities and measurments are done that demonstrates a clear improvement of the environment in the city after the introducion of biogas fueled vehicles.

Noise level at acceleration and driving in urban areas are halved for gas driven vehicles compared to diesel driven vehicles. Gas driven vehicles are just as safe as other types of vehicles. The fuel tank in gas vehicles are equipped with an automatic cut-off valve so that the risk of leakage is small. If biogas is accidentaly is placed it will quickly mix with the surrounding air.

It is just as easy to fuel gas as petrol or diesel and it takes about the same time. Fueling of gas is done in the same simple way as petrol or diesel.

It costs less to drive on biogas in comparison to petrol. The price for biogas varies and is depending on where in Sweden you fuel. But the purchase price for a gas car is higher due to the dubble fuel system. The price alse varies between manufacturers. In the present situation biogas driven vehicles also have a lower preferential taxation than petrol cars.

  3. Electricity and heat

Biogas can also be used to generate electricity and heat.
